Enduring Medically Unexplained Symptoms - a 1-day CPD-Approved Multidisciplinary Hybrid Conference (Hosted by Forgotten Patients, Overlooked Diseases Charity)
Wednesday June 24, 2026 4:30am - 9:30am EDT
The Challenge of Enduring Medically Unexplained Symptoms

Invitation to a 1-day CPD-approved multidisciplinary Conference as part of #MedComms Day and National Patient Data Day 24th June 2026 09:30-17:00 BST/London time

What is this all about?
Enduring medically unexplained symptoms are a huge and complex issue for patients, families, and the health service. Billions of NHS resources are wasted as people rotate between different specialties, various tests, and failed attempts at treatment. There is more in a recent ‘Analysis’ paper from our group in the BJGP (https://bjgp.org/content/75/761/579.full).

We will be discussing this problem and trying to find solutions during a 1-day hybrid, CPD-approved multidisciplinary conference (6-CPD points) at the Royal College of Physicians, Regents Park, London on 24th June (National Patient Data Day). Introduced by the Women’s Health Ambassador, Dame Lesley Regan, we invite you to join us in person or online at this packed, not-for-profit educational event. This is very much a labour of love by those of us who care about the problem. There is no agenda other than bringing different specialities, patients, educators, and health leaders together.

A summary of the topics to be covered and registration link are in the attached flyer. The detailed programme, registration details, and speakers can be seen at: https://canva.link/kq6h1467nya0afe

Do join us, do please spread the word.

Background
Enduring/medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) are a huge problem, with over £3 billion of NHS resources being wasted every year (2008 figures). Further sums are wasted in lost productivity and social costs (~£14 billion), not to mention mental deterioration, family break-ups, and occasional suicides. Approximately 25% of GP consultations do not result in a diagnosis. This is possibly the largest unaddressed medical issue in Western economies.
